Election Aftermath

I don’t even know what to say, I have been trying to think of a way that this is some sort of joke or that there will be some scandalous re-count and Trump will be sent packing. There was no question for me that I would never vote for him, no matter what, and I thought that was the majority opinion. I almost feel like the media paved the way for him to win by misleading us that Hillary was the obvious winner so there are people out there that voted for the 3rd party or didn’t vote at all that might have, had they known this was going to happen.

I didn’t follow the campaigning very much, I don’t watch the news and I don’t listen to the radio. I have been in my own little bubble, just seeing the occasional meme or crazy rant on Facebook. I wish I had done more but I don’t know what that could have been, but I’m now thinking about what I can do to continue the progress of our society without falling back to gender inequality, racism, and overall bigotry and hate.

I just tried to explain to my 4 and 6 year old what happened in the election, that Donald Trump has been elected president and some of the things that might mean for them. I defined for them race and racism, feminism and bigotry. I told them that I didn’t know what was going to happen in the future but no matter what, we believe in equality for all and in being kind.

I’m going to start looking for ways to help out in our community and get prepared for what needs to be done but in the meantime I’m going to start small with overall kindness. I think we need to be kind to one another, we don’t need to love everyone but we need to show respect for others and their opinions. “If you don’t have anything nice to say then don’t say anything” type of stuff. We might have different opinions and backgrounds and ways we reached our decision but I think for the majority of us it comes down to wanting what is best for our country.

Definition of kind: generous, helpful and caring about other people (http://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/english/kind)

Feeling the love!

Yesterday was ❤️ Valentine’s Day ❤️

We don’t usually do too much for it since our “dating anniversary” is the 23rd BUT we actually met on Valentine’s Day 14 years ago! For anyone who’s been in Portland forever you’ll know the place… I was standing in line at The Quest (an underage dance club) when I met Mikey and later that night we hit it off, now 14 years and three kids later, time flies!    Continue reading

Portland Food Cart Recommendation

There are so many food carts in Portland, sometimes it can be a bit intimidating trying new ones or knowing where to go. Since I live in SE Portland I tend to stick around the food cart pods here but would like to venture further out. Continue reading
