There is this little fruit stand that always pops up in the summer on the corner of 52nd and SE Woodstock, I always stop and get strawberries or whatever other freshly picked fruit they have. This year they have moved, just kiddy corner to where they used to be (still on 52nd and Woodstock but now on the NW corner). Continue reading
I’ve been wanting to do another sewing project and decided that I better start using up some of the scrap fabric I’ve been holding onto. I sorted the fabric into a bold pile and a light pile and decided to make a small quilt with the bold colors.
I basically followed along how I made my first quilt, cutting out the squares and then laying them out to figure out the pattern. I did pin up an old flannel sheet to the wall as a quilt design board, which worked ok. I was able to put up the design but then my kids came along and were wiggling the fabric.
I also had pinned it in front of the closet so when my hubby came home he wasn’t too excited to have to compete with the sheet and flying squares of fabric to get into his side of the closet. I think next time I will pin it up on the wall by my side of the bed, where I can keep the traffic to a minimum.
For the inside of the quilt I used an old blanket that I had been holding onto thinking that it would work for something just like this and it was perfect (and there is plenty more for other projects).
I had some strips of red with white tiny polka dot fabric left over from a Christmas tree skirt I made last year and used that as the binding.
The quilt isn’t very big but I am happy with the end product, its just big enough for the girls to sit on for a picnic or to keep in the stroller for the park. I think for the lighter pile I am going to try the half square triangle type quilt but will need to buy some white fabric for that so we’ll see what happens.
Pacific NW style… Prepare for rain and be happy if it doesn’t! 🙂
I spent weeks preparing for camping. Shopping, food prep, laundry, packing and more packing. I’m starting to feel like all the prep for only 2 nights of camping is not enough time camping! My body on the other hand is definitely ready to sleep in my own bed after two nights on the air mattress with a wiggly teething toddler. That being said it did not rain (whoot!) and we had a blast! I have several go-to chicken recipes, it depends on the cut of chicken that I have and what I’m feeling like making but this particular recipe is one of my favorites. The Big Book of Casseroles by Maryana Vollstedt. For this recipe I follow it almost exactly (will note the couple of things I add/change).
It has started again… I think its when I start to see all the pictures from Coachella on instagram and the spring/summer weather. I get out the embroidery thread and start making friendship bracelets, I just can’t help it! I didn’t even do this when I was younger but now I find myself being sucked in! Continue reading
We live in SE Portland and we love ice cream.
Salt and Straw is delicious but its not with in walking distance and it tends to have a huge line every time I go there. On Woodstock in SE Portland there is a cute little ice cream shop that has all local ice creams and makes some in shop too. I have never had to wait more than 5 minutes and the ice cream is delicious! Continue reading
I have had a sewing machine for about 5 years now but have stuck to pretty simple (in my opinion) stuff. Lots of basic skirts for the girls and I was on a bunting kick for a while, had to have a different bunting for every occasion and even made some for friends. Continue reading
There are so many food carts in Portland, sometimes it can be a bit intimidating trying new ones or knowing where to go. Since I live in SE Portland I tend to stick around the food cart pods here but would like to venture further out. Continue reading
Last night was “Tuesday Night” i.e. date night. We have forever had Tuesday’s set up to be our night to spend time with each other. Sometimes we actually go out or just stay home and play cards or watch a movie (which we try not to turn the TV on since that is the usual thing we do to relax after the kids go to be). I highly suggest to any couple that they should pick a night to be date night, this started before we were married when we worked opposite schedules so “Tuesday Night” was VERY important!
This is a little on the late side, as Carvers birthday was in the beginning of January but I still can’t believe that he’s one now! We didn’t have a big party for him but did do a family gathering with pizza and CAKE! which I made of course 🙂 I still do not have this cake making thing down but practice makes perfect!
