Halloween Pumpkin Carving

Crafts, Kiddos

This year so far has not been as eventful as last year in the Halloween department. I went a bit crazy last year and went to probably 5 pumpkin patches and had made part of the girls costumes (they were princesses, which I bought the dresses but made them fancy cloaks and tiara’s).

Sweet Curry Butternut Squash Soup Recipe

food, recipe

I bought a butternut squash several weeks ago and still had not done anything with it. It kept on sitting on the shelf looking at me and I just couldn’t figure out what to do with it. Finally I got inspired to make some butternut squash muffins, actually wanted to do sweet curry butternut squash cupcakes but we all are getting over colds so felt like doing something more healthy. Soup it was.

Easy Meatloaf Recipe

food, recipe

The rain has set in here in Portland and yesterday seemed to be especially blustery, there was even  a tornado about an hour away in Longview, WA! I love the fall where I get to start wearing boots and scarfs, get cozy with a hot cup of tea and read a good book (if I didn’t have 3 little ones running around all over this might actually happen more often).

I was watching some cook off show on Netflix with the hubby earlier this week and one of the things they had to make was meatloaf, one of my favorite comfort foods! I use this great recipe from the America’s Test Kitchen Family Cookbook, Third Edition, which we purchased at Costco a couple of years ago. I follow the recipe pretty close but sometimes I improvise where needed.

About Sarah, Personal

Last week we were lucky enough to go and see Alt J at the Roseland in Portland. Their light show really added to the music, they sounded great and it was definitely a fun show!Alt J @ the Roseland in Portland

Pilfering is not cool

Personal

Last night my car got rifled through. Not cool Portland, not cool.

I feel lucky that it seems nothing actually got stolen but my privacy feels violated and it just brings back old memories of when this has happened before. I don’t know if its just me or if this happens to lots of people but in my time of owning a car (since I was 17) I have had my car stolen twice and broken into probably ten times. Sometimes it seems like I must have left my car unlocked and others the window was smashed in.

Hungarian Mushroom Soup

Hungarian Mushroom Soup

Hungarian Mushroom Soup – I didn’t take a picture last night but found a picture I took of it a couple of years ago, so yummy!

Last night we had some friends over in the late afternoon which led to the evening and time to make dinner. We had some chicken that we were going to make for dinner but there wasn’t really enough for additional people, but luckily I had picked up mushrooms for Hungarian mushroom soup. I started making this soup several years ago, I found a recipe online and have changed it for what we prefer. You can make this completely vegetarian by using vegetable broth instead of chicken broth and sometimes I find that I don’t have cream cheese or fresh parsley so just use an alternative, it still turns out delicious!

A Penny for Your Thoughts

About Sarah, Blogging 101

Since I am new to blogging I thought I would find some guidance or “blogger education” and I came across the Daily Post’s Blogging University Blogging 101: Zero to Hero. I am coming in late in the game but thought I would follow along with their 30 daily tasks, not sure if I’ll post everything that I write up but I think it will be a fun exercise.

Day three: A Penny for Your Thoughts… what was I thinking when I wanted to start a blog.

Well it kind of has evolved over time and I don’t even recall the original inspiration. Ever since before Pinterest arrived I have been doing crafts, diy and cooking. Luckily most of the things I attempt have turned out pretty well and my friends always ask me about it or want to buy something I’ve made. I think that kind of motivated me to start writing it down and taking pictures along the way so I can share what I’ve done and hopefully make it easier for someone else to try it!

It started with the table…

Our kitchen table was a hand me down from my parents, like a lot of things in our house which are hand me downs, bought on Craigslist or DIY. It was basically a natural stain with no real finish on it, so after years of having the girls eat at the table and me rub it down it was looking pretty tired. With the end of summer and our gorgeous weather I realized I had better get on the project of refinishing it or I’d have to wait another year.

A little bit about me

Personal

Hello!

I’m Sarah, I thought that I would introduce myself for people that don’t already know me. I live in Portland Oregon and have my whole life. I have been married to my best friend Mike since 2007, we started dating when we were 18/19 and have been together ever since. We have three great kids, Lilly who is energetic and so sweet is four and a half. Mia, who currently is mid her terrible twos and shows it but is also very fun is two and a half. Lastly we have my amazing baby Carver! he is 9 months old and is the best babe ever!

My house is a bit wild, with kids every where, stuff everywhere, a big dog, a fluffy cat and usually some sort of project or craft that I am attempting to do taking over part of the kitchen. I love to cook, garden, read, crochet, sew, make jewelry, I’m newly taking a ceramics class and am pretty much interested in any sort of craft. I love traveling around Portland and have my favorite places to go but am also trying to expand my repertoire (said in fancy accent) and try some new stuff.

I’ve been interested in starting a blog for a while but have been busy having babies, now that they are a bit older I’m thinking I might be able to get it together. Plus I have a lot of fun doing what we do and would love to inspire others to get creative too!

That’s it for now but I’m sure there’s more!
